Solid presentation skill is really more art than science. The science of presentation dictates we ask relevant questions such as:
- Who is my audience?
- What medium is best to communicate my message?
- What is important for my audience to come away with?
However, many equate masterful presentation as nothing more than some pretty slides and great transitions. Say it with me – “Wrong!”
To often presenters who are uncomfortable, uncaring, or simply self-absorbed believe Microsoft PowerPoint to be crutch, and at worst, a hammer with which to drive their points into your head like nails. The term, Death by PowerPoint came from somewhere after all.
Prezi takes a different look at things – or better yet – supports the presenter in offering fresh ways in which to see things. Prezi is about telling a story – effectively. Isn’t that what it’s about, after all?
Prezi offers a few different options, but best of all they believe so strongly that you should focus on communicating and not the slide, Prezi allows for you to use their service free of charge in their Public licensing level. For those wishing to move into the availability to protect and edit Prezi’s offline, they offer levels of Enjoy and Pro for $59/year and $159/year, respectively.
I created my first Prezi some time ago, now. But once I learned the intuitive interface I don’t ever want to go back to PowerPoint again!
Try Prezi and let me know what you think.
