Question: Where are we going?
Answer: I’ve got no idea but we’re making great time!
Funny huh? Is it REALLY though?
Did you know where you were heading this year? Or like many of us hard working and devoted professionals, are you driving down the freeway 125mph looking just barely past the hood of the car? Are you focused or are you mistaking this with actually wearing blinders? There is a very subtle difference. It is very easy to get so engrossed at what we are doing in the current moment, complete the task and then dutifully parachuting into the next fire without taking the time to survey the land.
To paraphrase a well known tale: 2 wolves were licking their lips as they sat quietly on a bluff overlooking a large heard of fluffy white and tender sheep. One wolf turns to the other and says, ‘I am starving, lets dash down there and pick off one of those sheep to eat, it’ll be easy since there are so many!” The other wolf responds, without taking his eyes off the flock, “If you are really hungry, let’s develop a plan to surround all of them, glide down there, and eat eat’em all.”
Like so many other elements of leading a balanced and harmonious life, preparing goals is fundamental.
Now is the time decide, next year will you dash or glide? The choice is yours…it always has been.
As the rules of business change, thinking must change as well. For us sales professionals, I believe antiquated thinking will only lead to frustration, unhappy clients and a dwarfed income. The purpose of my blogs is to provoke a deeper level of thought about achievement in business and to challenge the comfort zone in order to provide a new level of selling and lifestyle.
